At Paris Fashion Week Florentina Leitner took audiences back to warm summer nights full of endless laughter and the rebellion of teenage years through her collection 'My Heart Will Go On'. Beloved fashion culture moments were reinvented, the catwalk was full of nostalgia and lost memories as the early 2000’s was reinterpreted for those who remember it best. Inspired by cult classics such as Gummo and Spring Breakers, this collection was a carefree exploration of adolescence in America.

Heavily influenced by skater style, looch had a front row seat for a catwalk illuminated with washed out whites and greys paired with electric blues and neon pinks. Silhouettes were loose and outfits seemed almost thrown together in the best way possible. Checkerboard Classic Vans made an appearance, paired with knitted knee high socks. In some looks accessories were as simple as glittery temporary tattoos and teenage scribbles in sharpie across models arms.

Unlike other shows that minimised accessories, Florentina reimagined the fashion features of our childhoods. Monkey backpacks, braided hair chains, and colourful hair bows added a nostalgic nod to designers of the early 2000’s as Florentina collaborated with Paul Frank for this collection. This collection explored a suburban daydream where ‘innocence and chaos intertwine’.

Oversized skater shorts atop printed bikinis exuded the essence of summer evenings that felt to be endless. Sequin dresses and Hawaiian flower prints clashed with embellished denim. Dresses and t-shirts were layered over long sleeved stripes with beanies and custom made skateboards to capture the essence of the skater girl muse. Shoes were flat, mostly slip-on pumps, some adorned with spikes but prominently showcased were classic vans, a statement piece of the noughties.

Chunky jewellery in collaboration with Melted Potato adorned looks, a contemporary spin on the classic accessories teens layered haphazardly. The beauty of this collection shines through the careless yet harmonious layering of pieces, whether it is high socks or neon highlighted hair the grunge and effortless charm of teenage culture reignites the rebellious spirit that lives within us.

Florentina’s collection revisits the warmth and heart of teenage summer; the tension between uncontrollable spirit and bittersweet first romances. Neon colour pops and well-loved clothing is the core of summer, it is time to bring back the careless freedom of childhood next summer. Florentina reminds us that ‘some loves burn bright and vanish fast but remain unforgettable’.
